Princess Polly is part of the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. As part of this program, in 2022, we committed to setting Science Based Targets inline with a 1.5 degree temperature rise and will be carbon neutral by 2030.

In 2020, a leading environmental consultancy calculated our carbon emission baseline, which gave us a starting point to reduce our emissions. Our baseline is categorized into our major components, and we are implementing new initiatives across each that will help us reduce our carbon footprint each year.

Our carbon footprint breakdown:

production 47% production
Transport 30% Transport
operations 2% operations
Use phase 20% Use phase
End-of-life 1%

It’s our mission to fully transition to Lower Impact materials for all of our products, while producing on-trend, high quality garments at accessible prices.

We’ve made good progress so far, currently 30% of our new arrivals are sustainably made using lower impact materials (defined as 30% of all new styles in the last month). We’re committed to making more progress, with at least 60% of our range sustainably made by 2025, and 100% as soon as possible.

Additionally we’re working closely with our factories on sustainable practices. Our significant sites are all completing a sustainability self assessment using the HIGG Facility Environment Module, which helps us to spotlight the most salient opportunities.

We have been neutralizing all customer shipping in partnership with Shopify’s Planet app since 2021.

The other major component of transport related emissions is shipping from our factories to our distribution centers. In 2022, we reduced our transport CO2 emissions by 41% by increasing our use of sea shipment, and utilizing lower impact transportation options as they become feasible.

All of our orders and garments are shipped in 100% recycled content plastic packaging. Our custom garment and shipping bags generate 74% less emissions than virgin plastic! As of December 2022, all of our global offices and warehouses became carbon neutral. On top of this, we’ve installed solar panels at our HQ in Australia.

In December 2022, 60% of waste created in our offices and warehouses was diverted from landfill into recycling and composting.

Our Environment Roadmap

What we’ve achieved so far:

  • All Princess Polly mailers and garment bags are made of 100% recycled content
  • 60% of our global waste in December of 2022 was diverted from landfill or repurposed into something better!
  • Reduced the carbon emissions of our upstream transport by 41% from 2021 to 2022
  • Our global offices and distribution centers are entirely carbon neutral

By 2024:

  • Understand the environmental footprint of our tier 1 factories, and develop guidance to reduce this year on year
  • With the help of relevant partners, make channels available for used or damaged items for consumers in our two largest markets

By 2025:

  • Global offices, stores and distribution centers will be powered by 100% renewable energy

By 2030:

  • Reduce our carbon emissions by a minimum of 30%
  • Achieve carbon neutrality across our entire supply chain.
